Just What is E-911?

E-911 (enhanced 911) is a system used in Canada to handle emergency calls made through a non-fixed or mobile network. E-911 service allows emergency responders to locate the caller in the event of an emergency.

When a person dials 911 on a Dolphin Tel line in Canada, the call is routed to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), which is a central location where trained professionals answer emergency calls. The PSAP operator then dispatches the appropriate emergency response, such as police, fire, or ambulance services.

How E-911 is Different from Traditional 911 Service ?

1Location Information ...
E-911 automatically provides the registered location of the caller to the PSAP operator, allowing for a quicker response time in emergencies. Traditional 911 calls made from landlines also provide the caller's location, but this information may not be as accurate. This is because a Dolphin Tel customer can update their location when needed.
2Internet Dependence ...
E-911 Dolphin Tel calls can only be made through the Internet, and therefore require a working Internet service to function. Traditional 911 calls can be made from any landline telephone, even if there is no electricity or internet service.
3Transferability ...
E-911 calls can be transferred from one PSAP to another if the caller is traveling outside of their local registered calling area. Traditional 911 calls are typically restricted to the local calling area. E-911 by it’s very nature provides a broader area of coverage.
Overall E-911 provides a faster and more efficient way to reach emergency services in Canada. The registered location information and ability to transfer calls to different PSAPs make E-911 a valuable tool in emergency situations. However, it is important to note that E-911 calls can only be made through a working Internet connection. Which most of us carry with us everywhere in the form of a Smartphone.
E-911 and regular 911 both do the same thing – they help you during an emergency.
